报告内容摘要：
Experimental measurement of the photoionization cross-section for the excited states of the alkali atoms, alkaline earth atoms, and rare-gas atoms is presented, with emphasis on using multi-step laser excitation, ionization, and the saturation technique will be presented. The dependence of the photoionization cross-section from different intermediate states populated in the first step and ionized in the second step will be discussed, including photoionization cross-sections measured above the first ionization threshold. Examples will be presented, illustrating the photoionization cross-sections measured using thermionic diode ion detector.
报告人简介：
Professor Dr. Muhammad Aslam Baig is one of Pakistan's most distinguished physicists, currently serving as Distinguished National Professor at the National Centre for Physics (NCP) Professor Emeritus at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. He completed his PhD at Imperial College, London, in the field of Atomic and Molecular Physics, and subsequently worked at the Physikalisches Institut, Bonn University, alongside Nobel Laureate Prof. Wolfgang Paul. After joining Quaid-i-Azam University in 1986, he established the Atomic and Molecular Physics Laboratory, where he has since supervised numerous PhD scholars and led pioneering research in atomic, molecular, and laser plasma physics, including laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy. Over the course of his career, he has published more than 250 research papers in reputed international journals, attracting around 5,400 citations. In recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions, the President of Pakistan has conferred upon him three of the nation's highest civil awards—the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and Hilal-i-Imtiaz. He has also served as Secretary General of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences.
